What is Carpet Pile Reversal?

Pile reversal can occur when the carpet has been flattened, crushed (i.e. under the weight of a chair or table) or brushed in a direction against the natural lie of the pile. When the pile of the carpet is forced to change direction it reflects the light differently and therefore its appearance becomes more obvious.

Pile reversal can happen to every carpet construction but is can be more visible on plain carpets because they do not have the benefit of a pattern, which would disguise the effect to some degree.

For many years carpet producers and other research bodies have been looking into pile reversal, but at the present time there is no known cure. If you would like to speak to a member of our Technical team about pile reversal you can get in touch either by phone or email.
